Gov. Kemp announces bonuses for every state employee, including public school teachers; each k-12 educator will receive a $1000 bonus that will appear on a paycheck this month.

During a news conference, Gov. Brian Kemp announced this morning where Speaker Burns, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Matt Hatchett, and Senator Bo Hatchett joined him.

“We are able to announce two investments that will directly impact all parts of our state. The first one is a one-time retention pay supplement for eligible full time permanent state employees of $1000 each. Given how hard these men and women have worked.” Governor Kemp thanked the state’s employees, including the teachers, for how invaluable they were during the pandemic.

Georgia has 112,000 state employees and 196,000 teachers and school staff members. The cost of this retention bonus is $300 million.

In addition, Kemp also announced his second investment, school safety,  which is an additional $103.9 million in the FY2025 budget for ongoing school security funding. This gives each public school an additional $45,000 for personnel or infrastructure improvements that strengthen campus security.

“We are able to make these investments today because we made sure the state’s economy was on sound footing,” Kemp said at the state capitol today. “We are able to make these investments today because we made sure the state’s economy was on sound footing.”
