ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Education hosted its second annual Teach in the Peach Statewide Educator Signing Day on Tuesday at the College Football Hall of Fame, drawing hundreds of aspiring teachers from across the state to formally commit to careers in education.

Modeled after traditional athletic signing days, the event recognized 390 future educators representing 47 school districts who pledged to enter the teaching profession. The Atlanta ceremony was complemented by satellite events statewide, where an additional 1,636 students from 78 districts participated, underscoring growing momentum behind Georgia’s educator pipeline efforts.

The event is a cornerstone of the Teach in the Peach initiative, a statewide campaign focused on elevating the teaching profession and positioning Georgia as a top destination for educators. The program emphasizes recruitment, recognition, and retention of high-quality teachers.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods highlighted the significance of the event, noting its role in celebrating students who have chosen a profession foundational to all others. “This day is about celebrating the next generation of educators,” Woods said, emphasizing the state’s commitment to supporting them as they enter classrooms.

Among the participants was Faith Ryan, a senior at Bradwell Institute, who described the experience as a meaningful step toward her future in education. She expressed a desire to create engaging and accessible learning environments where students feel empowered and confident.

The signing day was supported by several key partners, including the College Football Playoff Foundation, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Peach Bowl, and the University of West Georgia. Together with additional contributors, these organizations funded 36 scholarships totaling $19,500 and provided $10,600 in classroom grants through the Georgia Teachers Initiative.

In conjunction with the event, state leaders also announced a new articulation agreement between the Technical College System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia. The agreement allows students who complete high school Education as a Profession coursework to earn college credit, streamlining their path into teaching careers.

TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier called the agreement a critical step in aligning education systems with workforce needs, helping students prepare earlier and more efficiently for careers in education.

The event also marked the introduction of a new cohort of Teach in the Peach ambassadors—current Georgia educators selected to promote the profession and support recruitment efforts statewide. These ambassadors will work throughout the year to amplify teacher voices and encourage future educators.

As Georgia continues to address teacher workforce challenges, events like Educator Signing Day signal a strategic investment in the next generation—one designed to strengthen classrooms and communities across the state.
