Dr. Fred Williams Named State Superintendent of the Year

ATLANTA- Dublin City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Fred Williamswas announced as the 2024 Georgia Superintendent of the Year. The announcement was made during the Georgia School Boards Association/Georgia School Superintendents Association Winter Conference.

Sponsored by the Georgia School Superintendents Association, this distinguished recognition is awarded to district leaders across the state who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the positive development of students’ lives.

Dr. Williams, who has been at the helm of Dublin City Schools since 2015, expressed his gratitude and emphasized that the recognition truly belongs to the thousands of students, staff members, and families who contribute to the success of the district.

“This high honor is extremely humbling yet exciting. I am so proud of how this recognition speaks to the work of the internal and external stakeholders of Dublin City Schools. Thank you so much for all you do!!! I love you, and there’s nothing you can do about it,” said Dr. Williams.

Under his leadership, Dublin City Schools has embraced practices, including the Irish Gifted Academy, the Big Green Reading Machine, Baby Irish, and the Dublin City Schools College and Career Academy. Dr. Williams’s approach, guided by the district’s comprehensive plan, is centered on preparing “all students to be effective communicators, problem solvers, and lifelong learners.”

Under Dr. Williams’ leadership the high school graduation rate, rose by 27.4 points. The Class of 2023 achieved Dublin City’s highest-ever graduation rate at an impressive 97.7%.

Apart from his commitment to education, Dr. Williams is deeply involved in various leadership roles within the community and statewide educational organizations. He serves on the Georgia State School Superintendent Board of Directors, the Georgia High School Association Executive Committee, and the Georgia Department of Education Charter Advisory Committee, among others.

In addition to this recent recognition, Dr. Williams has received several accolades, including the 2023 Cognia Excellence in Education Award and the inaugural Georgia School Superintendents Association Marvin E. Lewis Sr. Trailblazer Award in 2023.

As the Georgia Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Williams will now compete for the National Superintendent of the Year title, which will be awarded in February 2024 at the School Superintendents Association annual conference in San Diego, California.
