On Thursday, DeKalb County School District announced that an elementary school is closing temporarily after a group of students tested positive for the coronavirus.

“We feel this is the best decision for this school community at this time.” Superintendent Cheryl Watson-Harris said at a news conference this afternoon.

In the statement, the district said 18 students at Oak View Elementary School tested positive; more than 90 students and 13 staff members are now in quarantine. The school building will be closed on Friday for cleaning with a reopening planned for Sept. 13.

Students will receive virtual instruction and teachers will work virtually next week.
