ATLANTA- At Monday’s Atlanta Board of Education meeting, the board recommended that the newest school in the Midtown Cluster be named Virginia-Highland Elementary School.

This naming comes after the initial offer for the principal selected to lead the schools was rescinded.

This school will house more than 850 students attending Mary Lin, Morningside, and Springdale Park elementary schools. The plan moves 170 Morningside and 493 Springdale Park students to the new elementary school.

Board Chair Eshé Collins appointed Board Member Michelle Olympiadis to chair the School Naming Committee that met publicly and solicited stakeholder feedback on the naming of the new school.

Virginia- Highland Elementary School is slated to open in the fall of 2023.
