Atlanta Board of Education will extend their search for the next Superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools.

Atlanta Board of Education announced today that they will extend the search for the next leader of Atlanta Public Schools.

In the press release, the district stressed the need to “take steps to maintain the integrity of the search process” and continue to work closely with their recruitment partner of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to continue the search process.

Atlanta Board of Education Chair Erika Mitchell emphasized the Board’s commitment to a secure and respectful hiring process. “We bear a profound responsibility to our community, faculty, and students to identify and appoint the most suitable candidate to fulfill our obligations.” Further, Mitchell stressed the importance of continuing the search and reassuring that our community trusts the process, “We have to get this right.”

This announcement comes one month after the Board of Education created a community panel of twenty stakeholders to help with the selection of the next superintendent.

Currently, Dr. Danielle S. Battle has been the interim superintendent since late fall after Dr. Lisa Herring’s contract was not renewed.

According to the original timeline provided by the district, the next Superintendent will take office by July 1, 2024.
