With most of the metro Atlanta schools coming out of Spring Break on April 13th, two metro area school districts have changed the way food distribution will be given to students as they continue virtual learning due to COVID-19.
Beginning Monday, April 13, Dekalb County Schoools will “transition to a modified meal service plan under the new plan. Under the new plan, under plan, meals will be distributed on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays Students will receive a two-day meal package on each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as shown in the chart below. The 21 meal distribution sites will remain operational and the bus meal delivery will continue following the amended plan of meal service.”

Fulton County took another turn, using the Center for Disease Control’s recently released precautions for employees reporting to work for essential functions. With essential workers being cautioned to now include wearing face masks while in the workplace. Fulton County Schools is making adjustments to our food distribution program to comply with these precautions.
The school system will only be providing meals on Wednesday, April 15 for next week. Meal distributions will take place at all 21 locations. For this week, distributions are canceled for Monday and Friday.
According to Fulton County Spokesperson, “Fulton County Schools is in the process of reevaluating our capabilities to provide masks and adhere to these new CDC recommendations for the long-term. Food distribution is an important part of supporting our students, but we must balance that critical need with the health of our employees and the community. The circumstances around the pandemic continue to evolve and we must make changes as they do. Additional updates and information about our food distribution program will be shared soon.”
