Yolanda C. Brown has been named one of three finalists for the superintendent role in the Memphis-Shelby County School (MSCS) system in Memphis, TN. Brown, the current Chief Academic Officer in Atlanta Public Schools, was interviewed along with five other finalists on Dec. 15 in Memphis.
This announcement of the three finalists comes after the MSCS Board of Education tallied rubrics, and Tomeka Hart Wigginton revealed that both the community and school board selected the same finalists:
- Yolanda C. Brown, Chief Academic Officer, Atlanta Public Schools
- Dr. Marie Feagins, Chief of High Schools and Leadership Development, Detroit Public Schools Community District
- Dr. Cheryl Proctor, Deputy Superintendent, Instruction & School Communities, Portland Public Schools
According to the timeline provided by search firm Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA), there will be interviews by the board in December and January, with a possible candidate selection sometime in January.
The new superintendent will begin on or before July 1, 2024.
