Education in Atlanta has confirmed that a shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County on Wednesday morning resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals and sent nine others to the hospital. The deceased include two students and two teachers.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified the shooter as 14-year-old Cold Gray, who faces murder charges and will be prosecuted as an adult.
During the incident, which began around 10:20 a.m., law enforcement and emergency personnel from various agencies, including the Georgia State Patrol, Barrow County deputies, and Winder County deputies, responded to reports of an active shooter. School resource officers intervened, and the shooter subsequently surrendered.
Among the injured, at least four suffered gunshot wounds, while five others were treated for anxiety or panic symptoms. The FBI and GBI are involved in the ongoing investigation. The shooter remains in custody.
