The Morehouse College community is mourning the loss of two students, Hugh Douglas and Christion Files, Jr., from a car accident on Monday Afternoon in East Point.

The Morehouse College community is mourning the loss of two students, Hugh Douglas and Christion Files, Jr., from a car accident on Monday Afternoon in East Point. Both Files and Douglas were members of the Morehouse Business Association and roommates who were scheduled to graduate in 2025.

“Hugh and Christion were not just friends but also roommates during their sophomore year, and their loss is deeply felt by all of us in the Morehouse family,” Kevin Booker, vice president for student services and dean of the college, said in a statement. “During these difficult times, we must come together as a community to remember and celebrate the lives of Hugh and Christion. They leave a legacy of excellence, passion, and dedication that will continue to inspire us all.”

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck happened Monday evening off of Church Street and Linwood Avenue in East Point.

Both Douglas and Files were business administration majors and active on the campus of Morehouse. Douglas had interned at Ares Management Corporation in Los Angeles and was an AltFinance and Goldman Sachs Fellow. Files was Co-Captain of the Morehouse Track & Field team and Media Chair for the Junior Class Council.

Hugh Douglas was the son of former Philadelphia Eagles player, Hugh Douglas. His father took to social media on Tuesday morning to grieve the loss of his son.

In a social media posting from Morehouse College, the college wanted the community to celebrate the lives of Hugh and Christon.

“During these difficult times, we must come together as a community to remember and celebrate the lives of Hugh and Christion. They leave a legacy of excellence, passion, and dedication that will continue to inspire us all. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Hugh and Christion. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly challenging time.”

Morehouse has counseling services available for students at the Student Mental Health Center located on the lower level of Brazeal House.
