In coordination with District Attorney Brad Smith, the GBI has arrested Colin Gray, age 54, in connection to the shooting at Apalachee High School. Colin is Colt Gray’s father.
He is charged with the following:
– 4 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter
– 2 counts of Second Degree Murder
– 8 counts of Cruelty to Children
Colt Gray, 14, has been charged with murder and is being held at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center. The FBI confirmed that Gray had been previously investigated for making threats related to a school shooting last year, but no arrest was made at that time.
The shooting, which occurred at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, resulted in four fatalities and nine injuries. The weapon involved was an AR platform-style firearm.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) identified the deceased as two students and two teachers:
- Mason Schermerhorn, 14
- Christian Angulo, 14
- Richard Aspinwall, 39
- Cristina Irimie, 53
All nine injured individuals are expected to recover fully; some remain hospitalized, while others have been discharged.
The incident began around 10:20 a.m. when law enforcement and emergency services were called to the high school in response to reports of an active shooter. The GBI reported that school resource officers responded swiftly, and the suspect surrendered to them.
Law enforcement and emergency vehicles were on the scene, including at least one air ambulance. Georgia State Patrol troopers, as well as deputies from Barrow and Winder counties, were involved in the response.
