Eshé Collins has emerged as the projected winner in the Dec. 3 runoff election for the Post 3 At-Large seat on the Atlanta City Council, defeating Nicole “Nikki” Evans Jones. Unofficial results from DeKalb and Fulton counties show Collins secured approximately 8,800 votes (60%), compared to Evans’ nearly 5,900 votes (40%).
Collins’ victory follows a Nov. 5 special election in which Evans led 40% of the vote while Collins received 25%. According to state law, when no candidate gets 50%+1 of the vote ,a run-off is automatically triggered.
Currently a three-term member of the Atlanta Board of Education representing District 6, Collins will step down from her school board role to assume the city council seat. She was first elected to the school board in 2013 and was re-elected in 2017 and 2021. Her school board term was set to expire in late 2025.
The Atlanta Board of Education will fill her role through an internal process until late 2025, when it will hold its next elections on Nov. 4, 2025, for Districts 2, 4, 6, and Seat 8 At-Large, coinciding with the general election for city council seats.
The Post 3 At-Large seat has been vacant since March when Keisha Sean Waites resigned to run for Fulton County clerk. Collins will serve the remainder of Waites’ term, which ends Dec. 31, 2025, but must run for re-election in November 2025 to retain the position.
