In a special called meeting, the Decatur City School Board approved Dr. Ghyimah Whitaker as their next Superintendent.
“Dr. Whitaker has a long track record of being a results-oriented educational leader with the proven ability to create sustainable outcomes by leading through impact and influence,” said James H. Herndon III, Chair of the School Board for CSD. “We are thrilled to have her helming CSD, particularly at the start of “All In Decatur,” the district’s new five-year strategic plan.
Dr. Whitaker comes from Fulton County Schools, where she was the Deputy Chief of Academics and previously spent time in Atlanta as an Assistant Superintendent. According to Whittaker’s contract, she will be paid $235,000, with a monthly allowance to cover expenses related to being the superintendent costs, 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, academic and professional subscriptions, and professional conferences.
Dr. Whittaker will take the district over on July 1, 2023.
