In a series of emails Cobb County School Board Vice Chairman, David Banks, shocked parents by sending out the controversial video of Dr. Dan Stock addressing the Mt. Vernon School Board in Indiana. The video which has drawn ire from the community focused on masks not being worthwhile and drew a rebuttal from the Indiana State Department of Health.
This email comes after more than hundreds of kids in just the second week of school have tested positive for COVID-19. Currently staff and students are not required to wear masks unless they’ve been notified of being a close contact. In addition, Cobb has come under fire for not offering a virtual option and not requiring students to quarantine after exposure to COVID.
This is not the first time Banks has made constieunts uncomfortable from him refusing to wear masks in public board meetings and referring to COVID-19 as the “China Virus”.
This week an entire grade level at East Side Elementary was sent home due to COVID-19 cases, prompting a rally outside of Cobb County School district to demand a mask mandate. The district responded to the latest events with a statement.
Based on our District protocols, fifth-graders at East Side Elementary School will learn virtually August 12-20. When providing high-quality instrction in a classroom is not possible, due to the number of students or staff in quarantine, we look forward to each student receiving a high quality virtual experience through Cobb teachers and the Cobb Teaching and Learning System.”
