Atlanta, GA — Last night the final three candidates were introduced to the community for the community candidate community at the Villages at Carver Family YMCA. The final three candidates for the vacant District 6 position are: Tolton Pace, Wayne Martin Jr., and Nate Jester.

This seat was vacated in December 2024, as Eshe Collins ran and won in the run-off for the Atlanta City Council Post 3 seat. The application process for the Atlanta Board of Education District 6 vacancy officially closed on December 20, 2024, at 5:00 PM.

During the process, the Atlanta Board of Education held virtual meetings, individual interviews, and community engagement sessions focused on finding the right candidate. There is an expected announcement today with the person selected and their swearing-in happening at 1 pm.

  • December 27, 2024, at 9:00 AM: A virtual meeting will be held to review applications and determine which candidates will advance to the next stage.
  • January 4, 2025, at 9:00 AM: Selected candidates will undergo individual interviews.
  • January 6, 2025, at 5:30 PM: A community engagement session will provide an opportunity for public input, followed by final interviews with the remaining candidates.
  • January 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM: The newly appointed board member will be officially sworn in, concluding the selection process.

The appointed board member will serve out the remaining term on Collin’s seat.
